What is it and How can it Help me?

Challenges are what make life interesting. Overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.

What is Counselling?

Counselling & Psychotherapy is a process which is scientifically evidenced based to help support people get through difficult and distressful times to gain greater mental health, fulfilment and happiness in their life.

If you have not engaged in this process before an outline of what to expect may help. Some people describe counselling and psychotherapy in different ways, but it broadly means a space where you can sit and talk through what is troubling you with a professional counsellor who will listen with empathy in a non-judgemental way. Feedback we receive is that a lot of people find they understand themselves better and as a result, gain different perspectives on their lives which enables them to make changes in their lives for the better.

Some people come to counselling with a particular problem that they would like some help with, while others come with a less clear sense of what is wrong. As they work with their counsellor exploring what is troubling them they find solutions. It does not matter who you are or what you do, sooner or later we all need a little bit of help and support in life. Whether it is guidance on achieving professional and personal goals or choosing the right career path, helping coping with an unexpected trauma or taking control of a long-term addiction, we all need someone we can turn to for help and advice from time to time. Counselling comes in many different forms, such as CBT, humanistic, integrative, transactional analysis, and mindfulness can be effect for individuals, children, teenagers, families and couples.

For some of us our immediate support network is our friends and family. However, not everyone has a support system regardless there are times when we need to look outside our immediate circle of contacts to get the help we need. Those who are closest to us are too close to the issue to be able to offer objective support. Therefore, offers the solution to be able to work through your issues.

Unlike some of the media representations of counselling and psychotherapy, what we do is very normal. You will be sitting on a chair, not lying on a couch and we do not make endless notes of what you say. We understand that many people may feel nervous coming to counselling, particularly if it is the first time that you have talked about your problem. We will help you to feel comfortable and will go at a pace that suits you.

Our aim in Resolve is to support you in any way we can, if you are unsure about counselling, we also run different GroupsProgrammes and Workshops. If you have any concerns we would be happy to answer any questions you have.
